Editors Note: New Leaders, New Look!

Articles Anne Millage Oct 05, 2022

It’s the most wonderful time of the year — the time when we get to introduce the best and brightest upcoming stars of the internal audit profession. And this year, we’re changing up the look, showcasing our 2022 Emerging Leaders in an exciting new design (see “2022 Emerging Leaders” on page 34).

We’ve been featuring internal audit emerging leaders in the magazine since 2013, and telling their stories is always fun. This year, I had the pleasure of speaking with several of the leaders in video interviews, which you can see within the article. Their enthusiasm for the profession and life is inspiring. And they are all so confident and sure of what they want to accomplish. I think back to myself at that point in my career and wish I’d had that confidence!

You will have to read the article to fully appreciate how amazing this year’s leaders are, but here are a few examples:

  • Madison Rorschach uses her position as a city auditor to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion principles throughout local government auditing, assessing how the community is addressing mobility issues, homelessness, and other social programs.
  • Modou Marega is a risk champion in a team leading the development of a governmentwide risk management process based on the Gambia government’s risk management framework and policy.
  • Taking classes to learn about user experience design led David Li to improve a process within his firm by applying usability heuristics to streamline initial onboarding and data gathering for net worth verifications.

Impressive, right? The leaders’ experiences are wide and varied, but they all share a commitment to bettering themselves, their organizations, and the communities in which they live.

Again this year, Emerging Leaders nominees were judged according to their work in the areas of leadership and business acumen, innovation, service to the profession, and community service. Judges reviewed more than 50 nominations from 15 countries. A big thank you to this year’s judges, who you can read about on page 53. Narrowing the group to just 15 of the best and brightest was no easy task, and we greatly appreciate them taking the time to carefully review each candidate.

Congratulations to Internal Auditor’s 2022 Emerging Leaders! We wish you all the best as you continue to emerge and shine in your chosen profession.
