4 Tips to Sharpen Your Internal Audit Skill Set

Articles Matt Kelly

To meet the needs of their organizations and stakeholders, today’s internal auditors must possess a strong understanding of the profession’s key priorities and risks. Follow these four simple tips to hone your internal audit knowledge and skills:

  1. Take time each week or month to read and reflect on some of the many resources available to all IIA members, including printed Internal Auditor magazines, IA Magazine Online, and featured blogs from Mike Jacka, and Your Voices.
  2. Subscribe to additional publications more specific to your industry — such as those provided by The IIA’s Specialty Audit Centers or other organizations like AICPA, ISACA, ACFE — or to general business journals such as The EconomistWall Street JournalSmartBrief, etc.
  3. Listen to business-related podcasts and follow or connect with key business leaders on LinkedIn to stay on top of relevant business news.
  4. Get involved in your local chapter of The IIA.
